Josh Allen, the first openly gay player in the NFL, will lead the NFL Network in his first season as the network’s new head of football operations, sources told ESPN.
The announcement came in a memo from NFL Network President Mike Pereira on Sunday night.
Allen will serve as the NFLs new executive vice president for programming, the memo said.
The move was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and ESPN The Magazine’s Jon Machota.
The hiring comes less than two weeks after Allen became the first gay person to be hired as the executive vice-president of NFL Network.
Allen previously served as the head of ESPN’s broadcast group and as a consultant to the league.
