The NBA and ESPN are among the companies that have signed on to allow users to stream live sports events, and it looks like the sports-entertainment giant is working with a different service to do so.
According to the Associated Press, ESPN is working on a new service that would allow users of the ESPN webcast to watch live soccer matches and other sports on their phones, tablets, or computers, in the same way that it already does.
ESPN reportedly wants to get the service on as early as the end of March, and a formal announcement of the deal is expected to come later this week.
The new service is expected the work of two different teams, and ESPN could have a deal in place for a number of years.
While the service is technically separate from the ESPN app, the two teams have been working together for quite some time.
A few months ago, ESPN CEO John Skipper said that he hoped to bring the ESPN live streaming app to mobile platforms, and that the two companies were “working very, very closely” on the project.
